The primary function of every school is to provide and maintain a suitable educational environment. Therefore, certain limitations, restrictions and guidelines are established to maintain order, to protect the health, safety, and welfare of students, and to ensure minimum disruption of the educational process and function of the schools.
These regulations may not apply to nor be applicable to regular or periodically scheduled parent/teacher conferences, open houses, back‑to‑school nights, athletic events, or other similar scheduled parent/teacher/school events.
To ensure the least disruption to the educational process and the highest and best parent/teacher communications, the following procedures will be applicable to all visits to the District's school buildings, facilities, or premises:
- The visitor must check into the main/front office area upon their arrival to make his or her presence in the District school building, facility, or premises known, sign in, and indicate the purpose of the visit. Visitor sign-in logs are expected to be retained at the school for one year.
- The visitor will present his or her proper identification (driver's license, state-issued identification, passport, or consular card) to be scanned through the District's visitor identification system (Raptor). If the visitor does not possess valid identification, District staff shall manually enter the visitor's first and last name and date of birth into the system.
- The visitor will be given a visitor's badge that must be worn at all times while at District school buildings, facilities, or premises.
- Upon exiting the District school building, facility, or premises the visitor shall sign out and return his or her badge.
- Any school staff member who encounters a visitor without a visitor pass shall escort that visitor to the main/front office to sign in.
- If a known visitor has previously provided his or her identification for scanning into the visitor identification system, it may not be necessary to rescan the identification. In such circumstances, the visitor will never-the-less sign-in and be issued a badge.
