KDDA-R – Press Releases, Conferences and Interviews

To assist administrative staff members in knowing how to handle news releases, the following procedures are provided:
  1. All matters of public interest should be made public.
  2. All matters of public interest should be treated fairly, completely and truthfully.
  3. In no case should members of the administrative staff restrict information about any matter of public concern and interest.
  4. In matters of public interest which are not felt to be of general District-wide interest, it is the responsibility of the building administrator to develop, approve and release such information to the media. In such cases, it also is the responsibility of the building administrator to inform the Superintendent's office of such news releases.
  5. Information of District-wide interest will be handled by the Superintendent's office. In preparing news releases, the Superintendent's office will involve building administrators as applicable. The Superintendent's office also will act as a clearing house for the distribution of information from the Board of Education to the media.
  6. In cases of media competing for the same information, the dissemination of information should be treated on a fair and equitable basis insofar as it is possible. In some cases a particular news organization has reason to do a particular story. In these cases, the District will recognize the news organization as having prior interest in such information.
