KCD – Public Gifts/Donations to Schools

The Cherry Creek School District shall be receptive to outside financial support to aid in the delivery, maintenance, and improvement of the educational program. Outside financial support includes, but is not limited to: grants from public or private agencies, private cash gifts to the District or a school, and donations of equipment such as computer hardware. In order to be accepted, gifts/donations must not include conditions or demands that would jeopardize the ethical or practical operation of the District. Donors who wish to make a monetary contribution are encouraged to do so through The Cherry Creek School District Foundation. However, donations made directly to schools or specific programs at the school or District level will be accepted. All proposed grants shall be investigated by the staff prior to acceptance. Basic Principles
  1. Gifts/donations can be used as a source of revenue to fund materials and support personnel for regular education and supplementary programs.
  2. All outside funds received shall in no way dictate the direction of District programs, nor hamper the objective evaluation of District programs.
  3. All funds received, apart from those directed to the Foundation, shall be under the control and supervision of the Superintendent and his administrative staff.
  4. The Board reserves the right to turn down any outside funds not consistent with the objectives and policies of the Cherry Creek School District.
  5. When private donations are used to provide, maintain, or enhance school programs, the District will be under no obligation to continue the same level of programming in subsequent years, or if the outside funding is discontinued or diminished.
  6. Only positions that do not require a teaching certificate, e.g., artists in residence, foreign language instructors, or support personnel such as teacher aides, may be funded by donations. Occasional use of substitute teachers may also be funded by donations. Donations may not be used to fund regular teaching positions. These positions will be on an at-will basis.
  7. All funds received shall be audited in accordance with appropriate state laws and Board policy.
  8. The contribution of specific items shall be allowed. The Superintendent shall cause such contributions to be reviewed or inspected as concerns their propriety and applicability. After such review, he shall forward his recommendation as to acceptability and/or rejection to the Board for final disposition. Such review shall include but not be limited to future service and/or insurance implications.
  9. Periodic reports of activities resulting from gifts, grants or bequests shall be given to the Board by the Superintendent and his staff, including donations made to the Foundation.
Within the qualifications noted above, the administration shall actively seek both public and private sources of supplemental District income.
