KBE-R – Cherry Creek Parents’ Council (By-laws)

The purpose of the Cherry Creek Parents' Council is to promote the exchange of ideas among parent representatives of all schools in Cherry Creek and to serve as a vehicle of communication within the District for parents, teachers, administrators, the Board of Education and interested residents. ARTICLE I: Membership Section One The members of the council shall be:
  1. Officers of the council
  2. The immediate past president of the council
  3. The president or co-presidents from each parent/teacher organization in the District
  4. Two parent representatives from each parent/teacher organization in the District
  5. Members-at-large who will pay an individual membership fee set by the council officers
Section Two Should a vacancy occur among the members who are presidents of or represent parent/teacher organizations, a new representative will be selected according to the by-laws of the school's parent/teacher organization. ARTICLE II: Officers and Their Election Section One Officers of the council will be president, recording secretary, treasurer/corresponding secretary, communications coordinator, community conference coordinator and workshops planner. It is recommended that the six officers be chosen from the membership and be representative of the five director districts. Titles of officers will be flexible and may be changed by the procedures outlined in Article V, Sections 1 and 2. Section Two The nominating committee will be appointed by the council president. It shall present nominees for office at the March meeting. Election of officers will be conducted at the April meeting by the nominating committee chairman at which time there may be nominations from the floor with prior consent of the nominee(s). Election will be by a majority of the membership present and voting. Nominating committee members' terms will be from time of appointment until a new nominating committee is appointed the following year. Section Three Officers will serve a total of, but no more than two years. Section Four Officers will assume their official duties at the close of the conventional school year and will serve in a different position each of the two years. Section Five Should a vacancy occur among the officers, the nominating committee will nominate a new officer to be approved by a majority of the membership present and voting. Section Six It is recommended that an officer not hold the position of president or Parents' Council representative on his local parent/teacher board while serving on the council board. ARTICLE III: Meetings Section One There will be regular monthly meetings of the council from September through May. Section Two Minutes of the May general meeting will be approved by council officers prior to the conclusion of their terms of office. Section Three Special meetings may be called by the president providing a five-day notice has been given. Section Four Any interested resident of the District is encouraged and welcome to attend council meetings. ARTICLE IV: Finances Section One The membership fee for the coming year will be recommended by the outgoing treasurer and approved by the incoming council officers. Section Two There will be no money-raising projects. Section Three Any expenses incurred but not covered by membership fees will be met by an equitable assessment of the individual schools subsequent to appropriate notification. ARTICLE V: Amendments Section One The nominating committee will serve as a revision committee to review these by-laws annually. Section Two These by-laws may be amended at any regular council meeting provided notice of the proposed amendments has been given at the meeting prior to voting or by written notice at least one week in advance of voting.
