IMBB – Exemptions from Required Instruction

If the religious or closely held personal beliefs and teachings of a student or the student's parents/guardians are contrary to the content of a school subject or to any part of a school activity, the student may be exempt from participation. To receive such an exemption, the parent/legal guardian must present a written request for exemption to the school principal, identifying the conflict involved. Requests for exemption that do not implicate the human sexuality portion of the District's health curriculum must identify a reason for the requested exemption.
If a student is unable to participate in a physical education class, the student and/or the student's parent or guardian must present to the school principal a statement from a Colorado licensed healthcare provider with prescriptive authority stating the medical reason(s) for the inability to participate. Exemptions from required instruction do not excuse a student from the total semester hours required for graduation.
