Each school building shall be inspected annually to address removal of hazards and vandalism and any other barriers to safety and supervision.
Alarm systems and other devices that protect buildings against illegal entry and vandalism shall be installed where appropriate. The District shall employ security personnel to assist in accomplishing the security objectives of this policy.
'Security' means not only keeping buildings locked and secure but also taking appropriate steps to provide protection from physical hazards and incidents of school violence. It also includes providing protection from fire hazards and faulty equipment and safe use of electrical, plumbing and heating equipment. The Board requires and encourages close cooperation with local police, fire and sheriff's departments and insurance company inspectors and will assist these parties by having floor plans of buildings and site plans showing campus boundaries available upon request.
During regular school hours, flow of traffic into and out of buildings shall be closely monitored and may be limited to certain doors. Consistent with Board Regulation KI-R, visitors shall be required to check in, to show proper identification, and to state the reason for being at the school. Visitor identification shall be scanned through the District's visitor identification system (Raptor) and all visitors shall wear a badge identifying them as visitors at all times while at District facilities. This requirement may not apply when parents/guardians have been invited to school wide functions such as back-to-school night or parent-teacher conferences.
Access to school buildings and grounds outside of regular school hours and activities shall be limited to personnel whose work requires it and to sponsors of approved student activities. An adequate key control system shall be established which will limit access to buildings to authorized personnel and will safeguard against entrance to buildings by persons unauthorized to have keys.
Funds and valuable records shall be kept in a secure place.
Personal property left in a school building is the responsibility of the owner. The District shall be under no obligation to insure private property being used by an employee nor is the District under any obligation to purchase personal property from an employee.
