BDF-R-7 – Equity, Culture, & Community Engagement (ECCE) Advisory Council

Purpose Statement: The ECCE Advisory Council ("Council") exists to advise and inform the District on issues related to educational equity and corresponding practices. The Council acknowledges that structures exist that have prevented some parents/guardians of historically under served and other marginalized groups from fully accessing and engaging in the K-12 educational system. As a result, the Council places an intentional focus on amplifying the voices and perspectives of parents/guardians who represent historically under served and other marginalized communities. Mission: What does the Council do and for whom? The Council shall endeavor to:
  • provide a platform to amplify and integrate the voices, needs, and perspectives of parents/guardians who represent historically under served and other marginalized communities into the District's pursuit of educational equity;
  • engage in partnerships which elevate the collective consciousness of the lived experiences of parents/guardians who represent historically under served and other marginalized communities (including both the challenges and adversities, as well as the traditions, celebrations, rituals, etc.);
  • work collaboratively with constituent groups to improve conditions and enhance the experiences of students of color and other marginalized students in the District; and
  • provide opportunity for parents/guardians who represent historically under served and other marginalized communities to offer advice on educational policies and practices affecting their children.
Composition: The Council shall be compromised of ECCE Directors and District parents/guardians who are representative of historically under served and other marginalized groups (i.e. the steering committee for the District Partnership for Academically Successful Students (P.A.S.S.) and the chairperson(s) for the Indigenous Parent Action Committee (IPAC)). The Council may, upon request, provide an annual report to the Board of Education with recommendations for action that are focused on District progress towards the goals established in the District's strategic plan.
