ADF – School Wellness

The Board promotes healthy schools by supporting student wellness, good nutrition, regular physical activity, and social-emotional health as part of the total learning environment. Schools contribute to the physical and psychological health status of students by facilitating learning through the promotion and support of good nutrition, regular physical activity, and social-emotional health. Improved health optimizes student performance potential and educational success. Children who have access to and consume well-balanced meals, who engage in regular physical activity, who have access to health services, and who are supported in the development of positive social-emotional skills are more likely to be engaged and learn in the classroom and are less likely to be absent.
  1. Goals
To further the Board's wellness objectives, the Board adopts the following goals:
  1. Goal #1: The District will provide a comprehensive learning environment that minimizes barriers to learning and is conducive to the development and practice of lifelong wellness behaviors.
  2. Goal #2: The District will provide nutrition education and promote every student's health status and academic performance.
  3. Goal #3: In accordance with applicable federal law, the District will provide and promote healthy nutrition choices to create and encourage a healthy learning environment.
  4. Goal #4: The District will provide daily opportunities for every student to engage in physical activity.
  5. Goal #5: The District will support and promote student social and emotional well-being to enhance student physical and psychological health and academic performance.
  1. Reporting and Recordkeeping

To help ensure each school's compliance with and implementation of this policy's goals, the Board designates the Wellness Coordinator and the Director of Food and Nutrition Services as the District's school wellness policy coordinators.

District staff will monitor the implementation of this policy, will inform the public about progress towards meeting this policy through required assessments, and will evaluate school compliance with wellness policy goals. District staff will serve as a resource to schools and will periodically review and update this policy in accordance with federal law, federal regulations, and the timelines established therein. District staff will also seek input from parents, students, and staff on these wellness goals.

  1. Reporting and Recordkeeping

The results of the required assessments shall be made available to the public upon request, along with a copy of this policy.

The District shall retain records to document compliance with this policy, including but not limited to documentation concerning the required assessments.
